Fernsa Kuche is a recipe journal. We publish Austrian cooking, and reading it does not require an account, a login or a subscription. Even so, running a website means some information passes through our hands, and this page explains plainly what that information is, why it exists and what choices you have about it.

The short version

We do not sell anything on this site and we do not sell your data to anyone. The information we come into contact with falls into two groups: technical data your browser sends automatically whenever it loads any website, and anything you choose to write to us by email. That is the whole picture.

Information your browser sends on its own

When you open fernsa.com, your device transmits standard technical details: an IP address, a browser type, a screen size, the pages you viewed and roughly how long you stayed. Our hosting infrastructure records these in routine server logs, the same way virtually every website on the internet does. We use them only in aggregate, to understand which recipes people enjoy and to keep the site fast and secure. They are never assembled into a profile of you as an individual.

Information you send us deliberately

If you write to us at the email address at the bottom of this page, we will see your email address and whatever you put in your message. We use it for one purpose only: answering you. We do not add correspondents to mailing lists, and we do not pass their addresses to third parties.

Advertising and Google AdSense

Fernsa Kuche may display advertising served through Google AdSense in order to keep the recipes free to read. Advertising on this basis works as follows:

• Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this website and to other websites across the internet.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to select the ads you see. You can read how Google uses this data in the Google Ad Policies at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
• Google's broader handling of personal information is described in its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google's Ads Settings at google.com/settings/ads.

We do not control which advertisements Google chooses to display, and the appearance of an ad on our pages is not an endorsement by Fernsa Kuche of the product or service advertised.

How cookies behave here

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. On this site they may come from two places: measurement tools that help us count visits, and advertising partners as described above. Every mainstream browser lets you view, restrict or delete cookies through its settings, and the recipes on this site remain fully readable with cookies switched off entirely.

Measurement and analytics

We may use privacy conscious analytics tools to count visits and see which pages are read most. These tools report patterns in aggregate, for example that a soup recipe was popular in a given week. We do not use analytics to identify, follow or contact individual readers.

Where the data lives and how long it stays

Our hosting and measurement providers may process technical data on servers located in different countries. Routine server logs are kept only as long as they are useful for security and site operation, and are then discarded. Emails are kept for as long as the conversation they belong to remains relevant, after which they may be deleted.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you rights over personal information, including the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or to have it erased. Since we hold almost nothing, such requests are usually simple. Write to the address in the box below and we will respond as quickly as we reasonably can.

A note on younger readers

This site is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Some pages may link outward, for example to ingredient references or to the Google policy pages listed above. Once you leave fernsa.com, the privacy practices of the destination site apply, not ours, and we encourage you to read them.

When this policy changes

If our practices change, this page will be updated and the revision date at the top will move forward. Continued use of the site after a revision means you accept the updated policy.
